Modify Steps Up To The Challenge
We recently teamed up with cyclist, Ted King
and had the pleasure of creating a custom watch to be a fundraising incentive
for The Krempels King of the Road Challenge. We asked Ted to elaborate on the fundraiser and his mission. Here is his story…
The Krempels King of the Road Challenge is a long time in the making and I’m ecstatic to say that October 18, 2014 marks its fourth annual edition. March 23, 2003 is a day forever ingrained in infamy among my family — it’s the day my father woke up having a stroke. The pillar of our family and the entire community, a loving father and husband, he was fit and approaching retirement age where he looked forward to traveling and reaping the fruits of a nearly 30 year career where he never once had a sick day as an orthopedic surgeon. In a matter of minutes, a stroke ripped all of that away.
The Krempels Center
fulfills the need of a community for adults living with brain injury from trauma, tumor, or stroke. A brain injury changes everything. Simple tasks become intricately complex; basic comprehension can prove impossible; the brain simply draws a blank and life can be forever lived in a fog. A like-minded community is exactly what people living with brain injuries and their families and caregivers need.
The Krempels King of the Road Challenge brings my profession of cycling to the roads I first started pedaling over a decade ago. Family, friends, food… a beer garden! The KKotRC is a community ride rather than a race. Three distances of 10, 30, and 62 miles as well as a kids “rodeo” ride plus adaptive bikes allow for people of all abilities to partake in an awesome day.
I was exited to reach out to the folks of Modify to create a watch as an incentive for the fundraising aspect of the ride. With all money raised going directly to the Krempels Center, you can raise money and earn really cool incentives knowing that a tremendous organization is the beneficiary.
It was great working with the Modify design team to dial in the exact watch we were after. I’m excited for those people who reached the fundraising threshold to see their new Modify watch!
